Longshore / DBA Section
The members of this section are skilled practitioners who represent workers under the Longshore and Harbor Workers Act and its extensions. Those extensions are the Defense Base Act, The Non-Appropriated Instrumentalities Act, The Outer Continental Shelf extension and the War Hazards Act. These statutes are administered by the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Workers Compensation Programs (OWCP) and the Office of the Administrative Law Judges (OALJ). The workers covered are generally classified as those that work on the waterfront in stevedoring operations and ship repair or building under the Longshore Act itself, civilians working on military bases in the US for Non-Appropriated cases, oil rig workers who are on rigs off the US coast for the Outer Continental Shelf cases, civilians working for military contractors outside the US fall under both the DBA and War Hazards Acts.
