Speaker Guidelines
Thank you for agreeing to be a speaker for the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group® (WILG®) conference and/or convention. WILG®'s Statement of Mission and Values reflect the organization’s commitment through education, communication, research and information gathering to be a national voice for workers and to improve the quality of legal representation to those injured on the job or victims of occupational illness by superior legal education and by keeping informed of legislative and judicial proceedings.
The following are general guidelines for all speakers:
- WILG® is committed to being an inclusive and supportive community of claimant's attorneys. Toward this end, please refrain from making comments that are or can be reasonably perceived to be racist, xenophobic, sexist or contain tasteless humor or excessive profanity or be in any other way discriminatory. Also, please refrain from personal attacks on other attorneys and judges.
- Speakers must avoid political partisan attacks on any political party, elected official or member of the judiciary, as well as those seeking elective office.
- Although WILG® recognizes that examples from real cases can be valuable learning tools to demonstrate specific points and techniques, we request that you limit references to specific settlements or verdicts without tying them to a larger learning objective.
- Avoid solicitation of cases or business and abstain from referring to any non-WILG® business, political or charitable activity in which you are engaged or have an interest. Promotional materials may not be distributed in program rooms or corridors.
- Unless a seminar is designated for Members Only, the audience may include defense counsel, insurance employees, media, doctors and judges. Theses speakers make valuable contributions to our programming but may only appear with approval, based on the programming being open to all and non-partisan.
- Speakers are required to be familiar with and abide by all provisions of the WILG®'s Event Code of Conduct Policy.
- Speakers are required to attend a faculty orientation meeting with chairs and staff via Zoom prior to the event.
- Speakers must agree to adhere to the strict deadlines for submission of materials to ensure that WILG® can obtain approval for CLE credits without incurring late fees. Materials include a signed speaker agreement, brief paragraph summary of the presentation, brief biography, professional headshot, handouts and/or PowerPoint/PDF presentation.
- WILG® Member Speakers are required to pay full registration fees for the conference/convention to which they are presenting.
- Non-Member Speakers who wish to attend CLE sessions at the conference/convention are required to pay full registration fees. If you do not plan to attend CLE sessions but would like to attend special events taking place during the conference/convention guest packages are available for purchase, please contact Suzanne@wilg.org for assistance.
- WILG® works hard to be able to provide the lowest room rates possible for our attendees, so to avoid attrition fees charged to the association if you choose to stay off property for the event there will be a nominal charge of $200 unless you are local to the area. Registration is required prior to securing hotel reservations however non-member Speakers who are not attending CLE sessions or special events and are in need of a hotel room please contact Suzanne@wilg.org for assistance in securing a reservation.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR AGREEING TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE WORKERS' INJURY LAW & ADVOCACY GROUP®.
Please review these carefully, as compliance is expected.
